Sup fellas, I just wanted to know what kind of barrels you guys are using. I just recently bought a Dye ultralite 14" barrel for my a5 to be used for woodsball and some speed ball games... I'm just concerned if the barrel would be alright to use for woodsball games especially, and what kind of position would be ideal for that barrel to be used for. Oh yeah the mods I have is an e-grip, stock (used sometimes), remote line and scope. Soon to come is a double trigger or hopefully I can pick up a JCS double trigger for my e-grip. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

I could do this with just one word:
APEX
The Ultralite is my conventional barrel of choice as I have owned several for multiple markers.
For the Tippmann A5, Lapco and JJ barrels also seem to be great and wallet friendly choices along with the CP line of barrels.
For non-tourney play though, the Ben Tippmann Apex is the way to go (in my books). Accuracy combined with it's unique ability to hook around trees, divebomb, and shoot much farther than the flatline make it one heck of a flexable barrel!

yea I was thinking about getting the apex also... itsa much better than the flatline considering that it can be installed with ease. But where can I find one for a good price? The nearest paintball store has them for $140...

I dont like the apex..AT ALL.
And if youre thinking about getting it enyce07 i wouldnt recomend it because youre useing a scope wich usually means ur a "sniper" or one shot one kill kinda guy. And getting the apex would kinda be useless except for maybe the flatline mode.
As for me, i use the Freak Jr barrel. Thats what i have used for almost 5 years now. Ive had a Whisper and BigShot and they dont come even close to the accuracy or distance.
(All that IMHO)

I myself have gone Apex J&J Ceramic 12" Hybrid....Now I get the best of both worlds. A good aftermarket barrel and the added option for range. What I did was create my own adapter head for the end of my Ceramic and put the Apex on the end of it. It works great and my accuracy improved; it by no means shoots like a aftermarket barrel in the apex modes (it did increase accuracy in those modes though), however I have the option to turn off the spin and go back to aftermarket precision. I will eventually post up a How-To so you can do it yourself. So yeah an apex is a good way to go, very adaptable and very flexible. My A-536 w/ Apex J&J Ceramic 12" Hybrid

Tippy, I've seen a guy using the Freak kit and I gotta say I was impressed. So Im torn inbetween two barrels right now; the Freak Kit and the HammerHead. So I was wandering if anyone has tried both barrels and has any preferences?

As most Flatline users will tell you, you definitely need a second barrel in case your primary one doesn't fit the game or weather conditions you're playing in. I use a 16" Smart Parts All American as a backup for my Flatline and I love it. If you play lots of close-quarters scenario paintball or speedball, you might like the 3" Stub Nose from End Game. I've seen it used once and the owner was happy with it. It's not accurate to more that 40', so you sacrifice long distance accuracy for length but it helps to keep you as compact as possible in tight situations. For $30 you can't really go wrong. Here's the link to the manufacturer's site: www.endgameinc.com/. If you want accuracy over long distances, go for the All American. I know I'm being partial to it, but I really like it. Here's the link to the Smart Parts site: www.smartparts.com/Products/AllAmerican.aspx--------------------------- Deciding on the proper barrel to use is directly related to three things: 1) The type of game you're playing (ie Woodsball, speedball), Speedball arenas are relatively small and the play is very compact. As such, a Flatline probably won't be your best choice since you won't be able to take advantage of the added range that a Flatline provides. A lighter 12-14" would produce similar results. 2) The position you're playing (ie sniper, medium rifleman, front, back, etc.), and In Woodsball, scout/light rifleman positions usually mean you're up on the front lines shooting it out with the opforce in a bunker or building. Again, the close-quarters combat makes the Flatline useless. Snipers, Heavy riflemen, and Backs require the extra range a Flatline provides. 3) The weather conditions at the field (ie hot, humid, snow, indoors, etc.). Humidity is a Flatline's worst enemy. Rain and snow adversely affect the performance of the Flatline, almost to the point that you can't use it accurately. A good 14-16" barrel with good paint-to-barrel match will be your saving grace when rain starts falling. I hope that helped, -Mavro

I suggest a Palmers Brass Barrel. I have a 10 inch unported one on my Blazer and it is just freaking amazing. I've even seen and shot an impulse with a freak on it and the Palmers is more accurate, even with the crappy old paint I'm using.

Comment about the Freak on the A-5: There is the standard Freak and the Freak Jr. The most significant difference is that the Freak Jr. back is shorter and does not have clear barrel behind the insert. On the Freak Jr., the insert extends to the very end of the back of the barrel.
On the A-5, the bolt actually intrudes into the back of the barrel during firing. So, with the Freak Jr., the insert must be large enough to accomodate the bolt and its oring (unless you use the 32° bolt with a more rearward oring--this bolt seems to have a greater tendency to break balls than the stock bolt). So if you get the Freak Jr. for an A-5, you are basically limited to 0.689 or larger inserts to avoid having the bolt stick in the insert.
Since the standard Freak back is longer, and has clear barrel that extends behind the insert, you can use even the smallest inserts if you need to.

Excellent ds, I have considered buying a Freak Jr before and this would save me a mistake. So if I ever go that route, I will do the full Freak. I have beena Flatline guy. Now I am an Apex guy. Anything I could do with my flatty, I can do with my Apex and then some. Battle tested over the last two weeks. WOW! I may never need another :-)

Well I'll throw my $.02 in here...
I have a 14in. Smart Parts Progressive barrel, and a J&J Edge barrel kit. I like both of these very much, and they preform very well. I can't imagine being happier with ANY one barrel that costs as much as these 2 items put together.

ive used both the flatline and apex barrels. after battle testing my apex i woudnt go back to the flatline... my apex is easier to take off and clean in the event of a broken ball, it shoots much further. and i like the dive bomb move... perfect to reach out and touch people that are blind firing... here is a link for a apex for $120 www.anythingxtreme.com

I love my Apex using Diablo Blaze balls, but holy crap does it suck shooting Zap Cryptics! I just placed an order for a 12" SnapShot (.689 back, I think I'll order the .687 as well). I'll report back on my findings by Friday.
