Beginning November 2nd it'll be possible to urchase a MKX 8, one of the most realistic paintball guns ever produced.
The MKX 8 is the work of Steve Wygant, owner of Blackpoint Engineering, LLC., which some of you also know of as JCS or Jet City Specialties. The firm is located in Goshen, Indiana, and that's where the MKX 8 is being built. Unlike a lot of the paintball guns on the market these days, the MKX 8 is 100 US made.
The MKX 8 is Blackpoint's first complete paintball gun, but far from their first in terms of popular paintball related add ons. Among the many other fine patented products produced by Blackpoint is their Alias MKX Launcher, their folding stocks and their MK30 mines.
Blackpoint first undertook the design of the MKX after it became clear that the US Army was looking to switch away form their aging arsenal of M16 style weapons. At the time the project first started no one knew that the Army would eventually reverse course and issue another request for fresh ideas, just before the
first of the new H&K M8 models were due to issued out to our troops. This action put Blackpoint's plans to introduce the MKX 8 on hold, but after it became clear that it would be another year or more before DOD finally settled on a new winner, Steve made the
decision to go ahead and begin offering the gun.
Among the many notable features which make the MKX 8 unique from any other paintball maker, is the fact that this gun works equally well for both right as well as left handed players. It can do this because it features an ambidextrous cocking lever, as well as an ambidextrous safety. Added to this is the fact that players can decide which side of the gun they want to place the feeder elbow on.
Not satisfied with just building a shell around a set of existing internals, Steve also undertook the laborious task of developing his own unique action and the result is something he calls an 'engine.' Whether this is the only gun design he plans to use this new engine in is one of those closely guarded secrets that only he knows. What he is willing to reveal however, is the fact that MKX 8 gun can be completely field stripped in only a matter of seconds, without the need for any tools what-so-ever. He's also gone so far as to develop a totally new feeder for the gun, one which is claimed to greatly reduce the odds that you'll be eliminated by a hit to your feeder.
Finally, less anyone think that this is merely some sort of airsoft gun made over to shoot paintballs, forget it. This gun is built using a new type of resign which is just about indestructible. The reasons behind the choice of materials becomes clear once you understand what the gun was originally designed to become.
