March 25th - IWO JIMA SCENARIO

The battle for Iwo Jima ended on March 26, 1945 after all but 200 of the 21,000 Japanese
defenders of the island were killed by the 3rd, 4th and 5th Divisions of the U.S. Marine Corp.
The courage exhibited by the Marines during the struggle for the control of this island resulted
in more medals being awarded for valor than in any other battle in the history of the United States.

One third of ALL the casualties suffered by the Marine Corp.
during the entire Second World War occurred during this one battle.

To commemorate the 61st anniversary of this victory, Battlefront Paintball is conducting a
scenario engagement of one of the most brutal parts of this battle - the capture of the
500 foot high volcanic peak located at the southern end of the island called Mt. Suribachi

Our regular players have seen the block and sandbag bunkering underway on "Mt. Suribachi"
at the southeast end of our field. They are about 1/3 complete, and based on the test games
played in this area February 26, Good Luck trying to capture this high ground,
especially once all of the planned bunkers and other in-depth defenses are complete.

Chrono Speed is at 300 and under ( they reccomend 285 due to the CQB confrontations.)

All trigger types allowed, full auto/e grip, rt and semi auto.

Paint and smoke grenades allowed ( except for hot burning types).

UPDATE

Since the number of players interested in this event continues to grow, we are expanding the victory conditions and objectives of this scenario. The Marines will now be required to land on two different “beaches”, and the Japanese must defend three areas.

Landing Area One will be located on the wooded ridge at the southeast edge of the field, and the troops starting here will have two objectives.
1. Capture the Japanese airfield currently under construction on the east end of the field. (This was the primary reason for the invasion of Iwo Jima since the airfield allowed fighter aircraft to escort heavy bombers to Japan)
2. Capture the headquarters of the Japanese Commanding Officer, Lt. General Kuribayashi. His HQ will be located in the newly completed flak tower and bunker complex located at the west end of the field. This tower is very important, because capturing it will prevent any Japanese reinforcements from deploying.

Landing Area Two will be located at the old Crab Creek railroad bridge at the northeast edge of the field. The troops starting here will have only one objective.
1. Capture Mt. Suribachi. (This mountain had a commanding view of the entire island and could rake the landing beaches with direct fire)

American victory is achieved when both the airfield and Mt. Suribachi are captured and held for at least five minutes. The capture of Kuribayashi’s HQ is not necessary for victory, but if the Japanese continue to reinforce, capturing and holding both the airfield and Mt. Suribachi by the Marines could be very difficult.

Japanese victory is achieved by holding either the airfield or Mt. Suribachi at the end of the scenario. Once a Japanese objective is captured by the Americans, the Japanese must retake it within 5 minutes or it is lost for the entire game. This will compel the Japanese to switch over to the offense if they hope to win the game, and require the Americans to set up a defense to hold an objective taken with much sacrifice.
