Okay all, I've come to the point in my tweaking my A-5 that I've decided I need to cut of the little lip in front of the front hand grip. I've done some searching but coming up empty handed. Anybody got any tips? I've got a dremel, and I think I've got some "metal cutting" wheels around somewhere....

Just start hacking away, be sure to leave enough material after the cut has been made to file smooth with the bottom of the receiver halves. Best way to do this is with the receivers together so the cut is even on both halves. Also some aluminum bluing compound will blacken the fresh aluminum if you are not re-painting the A5. Good luck, and happy chopping

A dremel should work fine. I've heard some people mention of putting two cutting wheels on at once in order to increase there lifespan significantly. I havn't tried it personally but it might be something to keep in mind.

I will keep that in mind. I'll be taking some pictures and notes during the process and post up results when I'm done. Thanks for the input and suggestions y'all ;D

Digi camera was down and I was giddy so no pics. I got it done, just need to go pick up a file and smooth it out before I paint.
Did it with the halves together, worked pretty well. One thing that kinda sucked was that it was a major pita to get the last little bit of material cut off simply due to the shape of the dremel, had to keep moving it around to find a good spot *chuckle*. Would have been much worse if I was trying to make it totally flat, but I wanted to keep just a little bit of a lip (but not enough to stick out through my specops mp5sd shroud).
Thanks!

I cut my old receivers with them together as well. I wound up breaking about 4 cutting wheels so have a few at hand. Be sure to wear eye protection as well. If I had to do it over again I'd just take a hacksaw to it first and then use the dremel w/ a sanding tip to make it smooth.

Yup, I always wear eye protection when using the dremel, no matter the material I'm working with or what 'tip' I'm using.
I managed to only break one cutting wheel (and it was worn down pretty good to start with). The trick I've found is to be very careful to put zero sideways pressure on the wheel when it is spinning. When you get deep into a cut it's easy to wiggle just a little and push against the side of the wheel and SNAP bits of wheel flying in all directions.
I think you're right about using a hacksaw for removing the lip specifically, it's a bit of an odd angle for working with a dremel.

I cut mine off just fine with a Dremel. I used a hand file to shape the edges a bit, then put one of the fine sanding discs in the Dremel to smooth it out. I think it turned out great.

Man, just take a iron-saw and saw it off! No Dremel, no other stuff. You want to cut off some metal, use a saw! Done.
I bet, I'll saw that thing off in about 40sec. You'll never be able to do this with a dremel...
