OK, i was thinking about getting an a5 next year, but with that and the a5 and some other select paintball items it will cost me a bundle, and I'm not rich. So i was thinking of getting the a5 then like getting a all American or a progressive, or a semi-good barrel, will it be still any good, and also what barrel would u recommend in a 80-100 dollar range
thnx!

You can find a lot of Apex barrels for around $100 on ebay. Heck...the Apex isn't that much over $100 and is a pretty nice barrel. It will carry some of the characteristics of the flatline when it's on a certain setting.

Everybody has their personal favorites, but the best "bang for the buck" over stock barrel IMHO is the J&J Ceramic barrels. I picked one up new off ebay for $20+shipping.

Welcome to the forum seren1ty! Although the A5 is a great stock marker, many people will tell you that the first thing you should upgrade is your barrel. This is true for the most part, the stock barrel isnt all that great, but there are alot of other possiblities for upgrades. There are a ton of stocks, sights, regs, barrels, and many other things that are made for the a5. If you feel that your consistancy problems are worse then your accuracy, look into some regs, or possibly hpa before you look for barrels. If you find you want more stability shooting your a5, look into stocks before barrels. Check out some of our stickys also, they have alot of great information on the a5, and its upgrades.
Most barrels will give you similar performance. Lapco Bigshots and J&j Ceramics are popular aorund here on the forums. All american barrels are good, and though I've never shot one, Dye Boomsticks and Ultralites are supposed to be good, and around your price range.

I'd hold off and get the flatline (or BT Apex) later, and just get the straight barrel now... No sense breaking the bank if you don't have to.

yeah, in a year or so you'll be able to get an Apex for $50 on ebay. Get a good mid priced barrel and put the extra money towards another upgrade. If you plan on using CO2 I would suggest a regulator, or at the very least an expansion chamber. Palmers kind of carry favor here as far as regs go but, most will do just fine but, remember you get what you pay for. If you spend $25 for a reg don't be suprised if it breaks in the first year...

Since your on a budget the straight barrel will tolerate the lower priced paints better then the flatline will so that is an added bonus.

Actually, that's something that's been missing from the Apex reviews I've seen so far. How does it handle poor weather and paint conditions? These were always the flatline's weak spots....

I agree here. I got a J&J ceramic barrel for mine for around $30 plus shipping. Great price for a great barrel.

I say go with a Lapco Bigshot. I've shot just about every recommended barrel for the A-5 (including the Ceramic) and I think the Bigshot is one of the best due to its scarce porting. Sure more porting would make it quieter but the accuracy suffers--this is my experience and opinion only.
The Bigshot is only 50 bucks, get a 12" or 14" right away!

Cold weather and brittle paint does not help...but that's expected. The Apex handled...I don't even know what paint it was but it was crap, at a local free game and that's when I was hooked on getting an Apex. It was October and maybe 45-50 outside. At Pev's in Ohio it was much colder and the paint was cold and it broke a lot. Man I gotta stop typing this early after waking up. As long as it's not winter I think the Apex works just fine. It's just the cold paint that makes it less than par.

im a big fan of the empire barrel kit. I have a 7 piece and it rocks. You can get those for 80 If you dont want to spend much money at all i would recommend a 32* whisper barrel, pretty quite and really accuarate. i got mine for 10 on ebay shipped. Or you could always make your own barrel like i did to start.

hey, I would also go with the Lapco Bigshot. I've been playing with the 12" for a few months now and I am very pleased with its results. I picked it up on paintballdiscounters.com for around $40 bucks.

I love my 12" Lapco bigshot. It's the first upgrade I bought.
