The flatline barrel is an amazing barrel. BUT, to get it to work perfectly, many factors have to be put into consideration. Some of these factors are velocity, paint, cleaning & maintenance, and some other misc. characteristics the Flatline likes/dislikes.
Velocity-
Many people have heard that the recommended velocity for the Flatline is somewhere between 260-280 fps. So, what are they going to do when they purchase a flatline? Set there velocity around 265, 275. They then think thats going to work. But, every flatline barrel is different. So how do you find YOUR Flatline's favorite velocity? Chrono you gun low, lets say around 245. Then, shoot a few times, and raise your velocity abit. Shoot a few times, raise your velocity a bit, ect. Keep this up until you suddenly see that magic shot that flies straight. You just found your Flatline's velocity!
Paint-
The Flatline is VERY picky. Don't expect to buy any old Walmart paint and have it fly great. Don't get me wrong, some paint Sold at Walmart works fine in the Flatline, but most wont. This may run you a couple of extra dollars when buying paint. Small bore, no seams, good round shape, and no dimples are only some of the faults in paintballs that the Flatline wont like, and believe me, when she doesn't like the paint your using, she'll let you know!
Maintenance/Cleaning-
Cleaning your flatline is a MUST! You cant just squeegee it before you leave the field when your done playing, not touch it while its in your bag at home, and expect it to be fine next time like you can with some barrels. Some recommended methods of cleaning, are -
1.) Don't you your normal squeegee! Use the one Tippmann provided you when you buy one. A normal squeegee will smoothen out the inside of the barrel, which comes rough, which give the ball the backspin.
2.) Boiling is recommended for cleaning. Take off the outer shroud, and boil the actual barrel part.
3.) Running water through it is great also. Put it up to your sink and let the water run through the barrel, and out the other end. Use hot water, and its a good alternative to boiling it.
Misc. Factors-
Make sure you do not use standard barrel plugs in this barrel! Use the barrel plug Tippmann provide you when you purchased the barrel. Tippmann will re-sandblast you flatline, usually for free! The suggested number of shots through your Flatline is 10,000 before it should need to be re-sandblasted.
This is a general "Ultimate Flatline" sticky. Most answers just be answered, if not, thats why we have the forum for the flatline, so don't be afraid to ask!
