Ok, I'm extremly tired atm, so let me appologize ahead of time for not being overly descriptive and for any potential misspellings or typos etc.
So Saturday I spent the entire day up at the fire house running santa details, which if you did't know, is when we drive the fire engine around a neighbourhood with santa onboard, handing out candy or presents, or whatever the community wants. Its great pr, the kids love it, the parents love it, and its acctualy a lot of fun. Anyways, we are getting geared up for the last run of the night at around 6 pm, when we get a rescue box, there was a car crash outside of our district, but there was a special request for our Squad unit, because of its crane and jaws of life and what not.
So they haul ass out there (there wasn't room for me or i would have gone).
When they arive the driver is DOA, and his wife, the passanger is cricicaly injured and is going to be flow out on a chopper. Well, one our guys recognizes the people. They where another firemans parents.
The son had left the station not 5 minutes before the call. If he had stopped to use the bathroom on the way out he would have gone on the call. So they rushed over to his house, and bring him down to the ER where they have to inform him that his father is dead. I can't even imagine what that must have been like. As it turned out, someone made an illegal left, and the fireman's (I'm not going to say his name) father swerved to avoid hitting him. Flipping the car in the process.
Our crew spent 2 hrs cutting his body out of the car. I don't know if i could handle that either. When they finaly got back to the station every single on of them had absolut ly devistated looks on their faces. Normaly after something like that, everyone is anxious to talk about it, but not this time, everyone was quiet.
So that was pretty intense. I left the station at about 9 o'clock, came home, and passed out.
The next morning i got up at 6 because earlier in the week I had gotten the "inside scoop" from my boss that a certain Best Buy store was getting a shipment of 50 X box 360s in, and my friend and his son (or my friend and his father, i consider them both friends, great guys really) and I where going down to pick on up. Well, we got there at 7:15, 45 minutes before the store opened and there was a line of litteraly 100 people (we where # 104 in line) waiting. they said that basicly if you hadn't gotten there at 6 pm the day before, you didn't have a chance. And ofcorse there where 3 or 4 a--holes walking up and down offering to sell their units, once the got them, for a slight markup... one guy brought 5 friends, and was going to sell all 5 units for $700 a peice when he came out.
So ya, that was a waste of time. So we left and went paintballing, which was fun. I acctualy used an a-5, because i don't currently own a gun (getting an 06 ego after the 1st of the year).
Anyway, as we where driving home afterwards, a car, about 5 cars infront of us suddenly vears to the left, slams into the gard rail, slides up onto the guard rail, flips over, and goes slideing down the road! I start shouting for my friend, the father to pull over so I can go help. Well, him being an ex-cop and me being a firefighter/first responder, we figure we can do something to help. We go running up the the car, as someone else who stoped is pulling a female out of the drives side (remember that, it comes up later. Also, that was a bad thing to do, as there was no imidiate danger of the car catching on fire, you should leave the person in until you can confirm that they don't have a back or neck injury, or potentialy have a limb traped. Which, if your pulling on them, could do more damage. But anyway..) So we come running up, and the lady is trying to stand up, but she is so shaken up that she can barly walk. We each grab and arm, and sit her down by the guard rail.
As I'm checking her out a veritable swarm of people are gathering. We ask if anyone else is in the car she says yes, her boyfriend. Before i can say anything, a few people run around to the passangers side, kick the window in, and drag this poor sob out of the car (again, NOT a smart idea, he was in no danger, and moving him could have potentialy injured him more. Fortunatly neither of them was to bad off, but if they had been...).
They bring him over, and he's got a deep gash in his forehead. I start shouting for someone to bring me something clean to staunch the bleeding, Clyde (my friend, the father) seeing the blood decides he's best used elsewhere, so he begins to direct traffic
Anyways, I'm starting to nod off so I'm going to condence this a bit.
The lady had a broken wrist, and cracked ribs due to the seatbelt. The guy just had a mean cut, no internal damage. Oh and he peed himself.
At this point, the fire trucks and Paramedics arive and take over. This poor industrious kid jumps off one of the engines, grabs a huge hydrolic cutter and charges the car. Needless to say, he was fairly dissapointed when he learned no one else was trapped.
Now i really am nodding off, so heres the end.
The lady was flown to shock trauma in a chopper, the guy claimed to ahve been driving because the lady doesn't have a licence (remember who came out of which side of the car..).
He was arrested for DUI, and she was going to have the same done, once she was stable.
Upon talking to some of the other drives who stoped, I learned that not only was (whoever was driving) driving extremely fast, but they where swerving all over the road, and finaly just lost control. Had it happened 5 feet earlier, there wasn't any guard rail, and they would have flown into on comming traffic.
Also, as it turns out, one of the guys ridding the medic was in my fire accademy class. and it was cool seeing him again.
heres the only pic i have of the car, sorry for quality.
Starting this monday, till friday, I'll be working 14 hrs a day, because Clyde needed an extra person on the 12 pm-6 am shift for his security company, or he'd loose the contract. So i offered to do it.
12pm- 6 am, then i have to be at my regular job from 8 am to 4:30 pm.
Sigh, its going to be a long week, and I'm going to be sleeping in my car for most of it.
Wish me luck folks.
