ThreatCon Outfitters (aka "Camo Market") specializes in Marpat and other digital camo products, some of which they produce themselves. One of their home-brews is digital pattern TOPAT tape.
I was a little put off by the price, $11/roll, but since I have no self-control when it comes to paintball gear, I bought it anyhow.
In the picture it looks like it could be some sort of textured duct-type tape, but it is actually very much like tan plastic packing tape. ...Ok, I'm pretty sure it IS tan plastic packing tape. It has packing tape's glossy surface. It has packing tape's tendency to split and tear in strips when you are trying to peel it from the roll (grrrrrr!). And it has packing tape's reluctance to stick to surfaces that are not absolutely free of oil and paint residue.
Finally, it has packing tape's resistance to ink- including the ink that gives it its digital camo pattern. Gun oil, paint residue, or just rubbing it with your fingers (like you might do when, say, applying the tape) will wear the camo pattern off, leaving you with increasing amounts of the tan base color (at least the base color isn't glossy white, like OpsGear's Camo Skin).
I tried using the tape to camo my ProLite, but even with liberal use of alcohol and paper towels, I couldn't get it to stick well enough, and by the time I got it on, most of the camo pattern was gone. I gave up and re-did the marker in the OpsGear stuff.
I did end up using it on my new A5 though, which arrived too close to The Bash for a proper cam job. I just sloppily wrapped the tape around the barrel, tank, cyclone feeder and hopper. Anywhere the tape could go all the way around and stick to itself, it worked great. Anywhere I had to rely on it’s adhesion to the marker, it did a good job of coming loose and providing me with gillie-style camo.
Summary: If you have to own every digital camo product that comes out, or if you want to add that special touch when wrapping care packages for your favorite Marine, get this tape. Otherwise, just pick up some surplus OD 100mph tape.
