Ok, forever I've been trying to figure out a way to do an Low Pressure Kit (spelled out for the benefit of forum searchers) without looking like a space gun.
My reason for wanting an LPK is reduced noise rather than higher BPS, so my design may be more constrictive than somebody looking for 20+ bps can use.
When I first read about the SpecOps MP5 mag, courtesy of British Bartender on the old A5OG, the kit was out of production because of tombstone issues. The pic in BBs post was as follows...
The male ASA adapter attached to the Palmer Stabilizer regulator led me to believe that the special mag tombstone had a female ASA in the bottom of it. Based on that assumption (yes, I know the adage) I figured I could screw a Springer Paintball Modified Low-Pressure Kit volumizer right into the tombstone, getting the angle I'd need to cover it with either the SpecOps mag or gutted AirSoft mag.
Unfortunately when I acquired a mag kit (yesterday) I discovered that the inlet in the bottom of the tombstone is actually 1/8" pipe thread. I don't know if this changed when they redesigned the tombstone or if it was always that way.
The purpose of the volumizer is to have a large volume of air available at the valve to make up for the slow flow at low pressure. Having two or three inches of 1/8" tubing between the volumizer and the valve would pretty much render it useless.
Solution? Drill the mofo out to at least 1/4", maybe 3/8" (I don't think there's room for 1/2" because of the cosmetic grooves in the side and the location of a plugged hole that was how the port to the tombstone outlet was bored), tap it to take the matching pipe. A regular threaded brass nipple (huh-huh, I said "nipple") can be bent to fit inside the mag, screwed into the newly expanded tombstone hole, and capped to form a volumizer. It probably won't have the volume or flow ( 1/4" < ASA ) but it's better than nothing.
Then you just need a way to get air INTO the tombstone and volumizer. Drill and tap a 1/8" hole or two in the side of the tombstone body, avoiding the mag mounting holes but hitting the air passage you just widened. Screw a 90* macroline fitting into one side to run to an air-thru stock, and screw a gage into the other side if you like.
Here's the pic:
What do you think? I'm going to try it out as soon as I can get access to a drill press.
