I just tested this out on my pro/carbine in anticipation for my A-5, its a pretty simple thing really.
Get a roll of electrical tape you can find at any hardware store, and wrap it around the steel-braided air-hose. You just want to make sure its wrapped pretty tight, so the edges of the tape won't be loose to catch on anything (plus the tape will stretch a bit and look cleaner)

This also works well with heat shrink.

Dude if you want the blacked out look just go to the local paintball shop and get macroline installed to replace the braided steel. Ive just had it done to my A-5 and I am really happy. It didnt cost too much and only included 2 fittings and a line. I recomend getting another line just for a back up incase of a rare break, hole or cut in the line. Simple to install and replace.

I put split wire loom on my steel line. I tried the spiral cable wrap and heat shrink as well. I found the split loom the best.
I also tried flat black spray paint and while it came out just fine I preferred the added thickness of the split loom.
