ok, so i just bought my first HPA tank used. 88ci/4500psi HP Fiber wrapped crossfire tank. i have a year and a half left on the hydro. i paid 115 shipped for it. heres my issue. when i got the tank, under closer instection, the very very top part of the threads is not in good shape. the threads are fine, its just the top lip which holds the o-ring in. i gassed it up, no leaks, but i don't know what pressure in there. i have to fill it still. what do i need to replace? where can i get it? i have a pic... as you can see from the image, some of the edge is bent, and broken, missing and smashed. the pin is also slightly smashed. like i said, it gassed up and worked fine. but it seems unsafe to me. can i replace just the top part, above the gauge? Help me for i know nothing! I know this is the proper section, but i hope it gets seen, not much action going on in here... thanks guys.

ok, so after some searching, i found that i can send it to crossfire and they will replace it for 65 bucks.
the terms, i am still learning here, its the reg that would need to be replaced, right?
is this something i can do myself? of course with the tank being empty? or will i just blow my head off attempting it? air smith maybe?

Honestly if its not causing any leaks it should be fine. But that tank looks like its been put through hell and a reg rebuild probably wouldn't hurt at all.
A reg replacement isn't something I'd advise anyone but a trained airsmith attempt.

If it works, I say just use it. Assuming that top part is the only problem, it certainly isn't dangerous. The worst thing that could happen is it'll leak, in which case you'll have to get the reg replaced. I've seen some buffer-seal-things that go into your ASA and make it so you don't have to use an oring, you might want to try to find one of those. I believe they were made by NW Paintball which recently went out of business, so you may have some trouble finding one.

thanks guys, i really appreciate the fast responses. I first thought that too, it its not leaking then it should be fine. so i will go with it for now. and when the time comes to replace it, then i will seek out a airsmith.
if anybody else has any additional info like what i would need to buy and where to get it at? i looked at the hotshotpaintball.com and didn't see anything with my untrained eye.

You need to get an aluminum valve protector:

Get a dust cover for your fill nipple while you're at it: <http://www.hotshotpaintball.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=32D-NIPPLE-PROTECT-BLK&Category_Code=AIRSYSTEMS&Product_Count=1>
Edit:. Just copy and paste the entire link. I can't seem to add hyperlinks correctly.
