Should "Bunker-Tagging" be allowed?
First off most of the times I get shot it's from 15ft or below... Either I'm doing a renegade charge in woods or playing more or less "defense" on the speedball field. When I get behind a bunker I can get pretty small and it's hard to catch me off guard so a lot of people decide the best way to get me out is from really close. Needless to say my hand is up when the question is raised of keeping the bunker tag rule into effect; not for myself but in concern for others.
I have been shot in wood-ball on multiple occasions where if the other player would have extended his arm all the way he would have probably been touching me with this barrel...
When I had my first Automag, it had jammed and I was behind a bunker when a “local big-shot” literally shot the bunker down (it was an old wooden pallet) and charged. There was no way he could have shot me from any closer; he had to shoot me in the temple and drop me right there on the spot. Needless to say I sat out the next game...
This was my first time ever playing paintball at an official playing field. I was 12, but it didn’t drive me away. Looking back upon it, I still think getting shot that close helped my stamina and let me know what I was getting into; it was a positive experience because I knew it wasn’t going to get much worse.
I can tell you a million reasons myself while I can’t stand the bunker tag rule but just this one is enough for me to say “let it stay”.
I have always been competitive and I would rather get shot than bunker tagged, BUT, I would like to have the option to bunker tag little Robert if it came down to it...
See little Robert’s only 10 and his over protective parents finally let him play this cool sport all this brothers friends were talking about. He got to the field and watched a game and immediately got the “first time jitters”. Mom and Dad look at each other wondering if they have made the right decision by letting Robert play and they decide he’s a growing child and they can’t shelter him forever. They decide to let Robert play his first game of paintball. Off the break Robert froze and went straight to the center standup. He sat down with his back against the bunker wondering when the horror of getting shot would finally come to a reality. He would ever so often make the best attempt to blind fire that he could but the rush, adrenalin, and fear overwhelmed him. His parents at the sidelines are watching him turn into a vegetable behind his paint covered bunker when finally reality hits. Johnny Blaze, firing a seemingly never ending stream of paint, runs around the corner of the bunker. Robert whimpers but reality has caught up with time and the next thing you know little Robert is on the ground crying. Mom and Dad have just witnessed there little boy be torn to shreds by an over confident teen out for his weekend joy ride of “noob bashing”. Robert is permanently devastated. The following game Robert decides to sit out and then calls it a day. He decides never to play the barbarically portrayed game of paintball again. Roberts last name is Long; Robert “Bob” Long.
I know the scenario may be a little far fetched but it is perfectly capable of happening. If one simple rule can keep potential into the game and keeps the sport growing, I say lets keep it and suck it up if we get our bunker slapped while dumping a pod…
Just my $.57
