Seeing the thread on the 2 piece rear bolt reminded me that while at Tippmann HQ, I got to see the new "Anti-chop bolt" for the 98.
Can't see why I forgot this! It was cool.
The demo gun was a M98, WAS Board, and Anti-Chop Bolt.
The bolt works like this: 1- all new M98s will have a slightly different milling than all current M98s. (side note, the Model 98 is discontinued; leaving only the 98 Custom and Custom Pro) 2- the bolts have a gentle sping in them 3- the "arm" that links the front and rear bolt "move"
When the front bolt "feels" any resistance (like when a ball is not fully loaded), the arm lifts up and the front bolt is not advanced. It will still releease the gas, and then be ready to fire now that the ball is still in place.
Tippmann Effect is using this system right now with the WAS board and the gun is SMOKIN' fast.
Can't believe I forgot that.

Nice! It was about time they came up with an "anti-chop," but it sounds like they ripped the idea that was going around on the Tippy forum regarding "railed" front bolts with springs...
I can't wait to see it though... I wonder if they'll do that for the A-5?

They might have. It was funny to sit and listen to them try to diss all after market upgrades to Tippmans (differend thread though). I love Tippys, but every genious idea is not confined to their walls.
But would they need this for the A5? The 98 series needs a hopper to keep up. Most get an Electro like the Evo2. My son had a 98 Custom Pro E. It chopped like crazy until I got him a cyclone; then there was no problems with chopped paint. The only time I have problems with chop is when I have crap paint and it blows up in the cyclone.
Remeber though, this is not an upgrade. This requires special milling tothe receiver halves. With the current systems (98 & A5) the arm slides in a groove. With the new milling, there is room for it to "raise up" from the rear bolt with the help of springs. So, even if they did do this for the A5, it would only be avilable for people who got new A5s.

With the Q out there being an official tippmann distributer now, and with boards pushing the limits of the cyclone, I don't see why they wouldn't want to offer this as an upgrade to ALL thier markers going forward.
Not a "pre-existing marker" upgrade, but something to go in all the new markers...

They are not a simple drop-in item, so no not for the A5 (yet). If you have a 98 and wanted one you would have to send the marker in to be installed.
