I am almost done buildning my M4 A-5 however, I am currently planning to make a A-5 sniper rifle. I currently own a standard A-5 flatline and am extremely happy with it however, hotshotpaintball.com makes a UMS 98 flatline conversion to the A-5 which looks better for a sniper rifle because its longer dimension. They claim that the 98 flatline travels flatter, longer and more accurate than the A-5 flatline. I understand in the rifle world, a longer barrel usually equals longer and better accuracy but then again in the paintball world a longer barrel equals more surface drag for a paintball to travel through. Can anyone vouch that the 98 flatline is better, worse or about equal to the A-5 flatline?

OK heres the scoop .. I have the standard A5 Flatty, my son has an A5 APEX and my buddy has the A5 (super98) Flatty conversion.
We have back to back tested all three barrels on the same marker on the same day with 3 different paintballs. WE used a 2'x4' target set at exactly 200' from our shooting position with no wind.
The conclusion was evident that in some cases the APEX and SuperFlatty would fly further than the A5Flatty, however they wouldnt hardly ever fly more accurately. In fact they both were obviously less consistant and winged paint without warning. At 200' the Std Flatty would hit target 8 out of 10 balls ... with the other barrels hitting target 5-7 times.
Ive used the SuperFlatty on my own A5 in games and concluded I was much happier with the Std Flatty. In fact that was the same conclusion from my buddy that used my barrel as well.
So for what its worth ... your not gaining a thing ( other than looks and mod-ability) and perhaps your taking a chance on less consistant accuracy, depending on your paint and situation.
Perhaps others here have had differing experiences, however I know that we did the best comparison possible on these three barrels.
