A freind said they will send a card in the mail, you can fillit out and send it back or it has a website for you to register at. Is this true? Havent gotten anything yet but its only been one day.

Its actually the "selective service" registration. USually you will get something in the mail. usually a reminder with the website addy or a card to fill out and return. I went 3 years w/o registering (?) so i was told, registered like 4 times because they kept sending me the card in the mail so i registered online to make sure they got my information.

I'm almost positive it's the law to register. I registered... but I also joined the Army, so I guess I get the best of both worlds.

You don't have to register. You just arn't eligable for Most Financial Aid, and you can't collect social security (if its still around). But its not the law that you have to register..

It's a pretty good idea to.
I like how there's a female option, but you can't register...

Actually electricity it IS the law. To quote from the selective service website
Registration is the law. A man who fails to register may, if prosecuted and convicted, face a fine of up to $250,000 and/or a prison term of up to five years.

You should also be able to register at your local post office. Thats what I did as well. Also try the Secretary of State (if you state has one). If you dont register you are not eligible for finacial aid, social security, goverment loans or goverment jobs. That means you wont be able to join the Army, work for the FBI, the Post Office, etc.......

I registered online! Go to the site Vash posted (sss.gov). Takes about 4 minutes, and then you get an awesome card!

Its funny, I read this thread last night, but didnt get to finish reading it because I had to go out to dinner for my brothers 18th birthday, and him signing up for the draft came up. He doesnt turn 18 until tomorrow or saturday, but he got the card today. Its kind of scary though. My brother and I really dont have the best realtionship, and seeing him sign up for the draft, and sending in transcripts to colleges really changes the way I look at him, because everyday I forget he's 18, because he's no taller then 5'4, which is like 2 inches taller then me, and personaly, I dont think he could handle the military, lol.

I have never understood why people get weird when they have to register. We dont have a draft, and it isnt likely we ever will again. It is a possibility, but guys it aint gonna happen. I turned 18, went to the government center and registered with the selective services and didnt give it another thought.
With all the rights and freedoms we are granted by our government registering with the selective service is not asking alot.
