I have never understood why people get weird when they have to register. We dont have a draft, and it isnt likely we ever will again. It is a possibility, but guys it aint gonna happen. I turned 18, went to the government center and registered with the selective services and didnt give it another thought. With all the rights and freedoms we are granted by our government registering with the selective service is not asking alot. Good post Jester, I second that.

Pesonly I dont mind haveing a draft come back, but I would need a damn good reson for it. Like only if the war DIRECLY IN EVERY WAY pointed tawards America under attack. If I got drafted I want a reson to fight not "oh your going to Iraq beacuse we tell you to" Example: Mexico builds up army to attack America, Fine gloves off they smaked first now I get drafted to fight em fine beacuse I have a very good reson. Opposite Example: France Invades Germany. No I dotn want to be drafted to go fight some other guys war thats some strait up BS. Cheers

The inherent problem s that if mexico started an army bent on atacking the usa, they could migrate soldiers here for a few years, and then just take over. No shots fired...

Something I just learned is that in 1973 the government re-defind how a draft would work and why. It was as a result of the snafu that was the Vietnam conflict. In Vietnam there were no National Gurads units deployed like they were in WWI and WWII and every war before them. The President at the time (Johnson) didnt want the debate in the Congress that comes with deploying the National Guard. So they re-started the draft. Brilliant decision there.
Basicly a draft was used in lue of using the Guard. Now our government has went back to using the Guard, because the draft didnt work out so well. Not to mention the Guard has been used in it's compasity as soldiers since the birth of our country. Now they probally would have had to do a draft anyway in Vietnam, but you never know.
The point is, I dont think we have to worry about draft anytime soon. There are enough fine men and women that want to serve our country in the armed services including the National Guard that I dont see a draft in our future. And I thank God for those people.
So, did anyone else watch the History Channel tonight?

Question: I'm only 17 and I won't turn 18 until late June, at which point I'll already be accepted and enrolled at college. Because I can't yet register for the draft, will I not be eligible for financial aid?

Now I aint no expert on this, but I think they go ahead with stuff like that, and assume you will register like your suppose to.
