Ehh Idk. It just seems like its too good to be true especially coming from a sight that seems to specialize in energy conservation. I am curious what the cars ecu is going to think of this because putting certain grades of gasoline in cars can actually cause the car to go into safe mode to prevent engine damage.

I'm curious exactly what effects that even the 1oz of it would be to the car's integrity? Maybe a couple times it's fine but what about into the future.

Not necessarily on its integrity I'm just wondering what the car MAF would think of it.

Doing more reading on other sites ... ( once you filter out the flames ) ... It appears the advantages maybe better suited to carburetored engines ( older cars) than injection systems. Acetone may of maynot promote a slightly higher wear rate on viton seals ( such as injector seals ) but no more than perhaps ethanol or methanol additives. Most everything you read is all nonverfiable personal claims so it sure falls in as a candidate for the urban legends.

OK .. Ive done more research, checked with some fuel systems engineers at Chrysler Tech Center in Auburn Hills and some other techical sources. Nobody really seems to know if this acetone story may or may not be true. Nobody has thought to try it yet. However one thing I did find out ( from Chrysler) was that Drag Racers for years have added acetone to nitro-methane to improve its burn rate and power release. .....
There didnt seem to be much of any concerns from them for me trying the 1-2oz per 10gals and giving this idea a try, however there were some concern over possible longterm effects to the convertor materials.
A friend of mine works at a GM Dealership, so I went to him and asked what he thought. He suggested if I wanted to try this, that we scan the vehicles ECM for any faults or codes before doing it. So we hooked up my Tahoe to his scanner and checked it. All was fine no faults or codes from his scanner. So I purchased 32oz of acetone at LOWES for $5.17 and put 4 oz into a 1 gal container and pre-mixed it with gas, then dumped into the full tank on my 2000 Tahoe. I usually get right at 15mpg for my normal driving routine. I'll let everyone know what happens, so far my Tahoe is running fine after 100 miles or so but I cant tell much more than that at this point.

In case any of you have been unable to leave your computers waiting for my report on acetone/gas and fuel mileage , here we go. Ive driven the last 230.4 miles on the mixture of 2oz acetone to 10 gals fuel. When I refilled the tank I had used 14.507 gals. Doing the math that is 15.89 mpg or almost exactly 1 mpg better than I was getting without mixing the fuel. So I guess at this point I'd have to consider this experiment disappointing. My percentage increase was only 7% vs the 30% claim in the article. I probably achieved the increase due to my subconscience careful driving other than the acetone !! So scratch this one up to experience and another Urban Legend and forget the acetone !!

My dad put some Marvel Mystery Oil in his Jeep and it went from ~20 to 24mpg. We're going to try again and see if it works as good every-time. BTW If you just want your car to run smoother and help a little with milage. Get some "Sea Foam" Its $10 for 3 times worth. The jeep had 165k on it and we put it in and it ran like new.
